On Saturday, January 18, 2025, the GFWC Miami Springs Woman's Club hosted its 9th Annual Health & Wellness Community Fair. Held at the Miami Springs Woman's Club, the fair provided a valuable opportunity for residents to access essential health services, connect with local and state organizations, and learn about wellness practices. It brought together a vibrant mix of community members and organizations committed to supporting the health and well-being of Miami Springs and its neighboring communities.

The event's success is due to the efforts of the club's Health & Wellness Committee, led by Chair Elizabeth Fisher, who is the driving force behind the fair. In her message to club members, Elizabeth expressed heartfelt gratitude for the team's collaboration: "The community turned out in full force, and every presenter showed up! The weather was beautiful, and our volunteers were on hand to manage everything from registration and hospitality to setup and cleanup. Our presenters were once again moved by the warmth and hospitality provided by our club members."
The fair served as a comprehensive health resource hub, featuring an impressive array of services and programs. A key highlight was the glucose screenings that the local Lion's Club provided, with 127 screenings offering critical insights into diabetes management. The Lion's Club also provided free hearing tests, reading glasses, and sunglasses. Additionally, a record 17 individuals donated blood, and many others signed up to become organ donors, reflecting the community's generous spirit.
Attendees were also given door prize tickets at registration for a chance to win great prizes, adding an exciting element to the day. The barbecue team served delicious barbecue hotdogs and chips all day. The local franchise for Subway donated healthy subs, and everyone stayed hydrated thanks to local retailer Parkway Fitted.
The fair also offered vital support services, including emergency preparedness information, vaccinations by Walgreens, and a food drive. Farm Share, a local partner, distributed 500 meals to attendees, ensuring families in need were supported. Animal lovers had the chance to adopt pets from Miami-Dade Animal Adoption, further promoting the importance of both personal and community health.
Side by side were the Village of Virginia Gardens Police Department and Miami Springs Police Department, who were promoting and signing up residents for the 'Block Watch' Program. They also had an impressive K-9 presentation on the main stage, and on that same row - The Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue allowed attendees to tour the truck.
The physical fitness program BeYou360 got everyone into yoga mode. Kids were delighted with the face painting, and the wildlife animal show drew everyone in for a close look at some majestic creatures. Under a shady tree, visitors met the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station's Eastern Screech Owl ambassador, named Mowgli.
Presenters at the fair represented a broad spectrum of health and wellness services, offering everything from physical and mental health resources to financial and family support. Participating organizations included:
BA Physical Therapy
Thanks to the generous support of sponsors Humana and Lions Clubs International of Miami Springs, the event brought together this diverse group of organizations, making it possible to offer the local community a wide range of health services, education, and resources.
The community's overwhelming participation, the presenters' dedication, and the tireless work of club members all contributed to making the fair a memorable day. The positive feedback from attendees and presenters alike is a testament to the spirit of collaboration and the impact of the GFWC Miami Springs Woman's Club Health & Wellness initiative.
