Awarding scholarships since 1942, The GFWC Miami Springs Woman's Club Scholarship Fund provides financial support for students to help them improve their college or vocational/trade experience. We're not just helping fund their education; we are helping these students transform their lives.
These scholarships are a community effort because the number of scholarships and the amount given depend on the generosity of our donors (all donations are tax-deductible) and the amount of money raised by our club through fundraising events.
The Scholarship Fund consists of the Lena Pearl Wheeler Health Sciences Scholarship, the MSWC High School Scholarship, the Dr. Eileen McDonough Scholarship, the Jennifer Ator Scholarship (funded by the Ator Family), and the Sigurd Michelson Trade School Memorial Scholarship (funded by the Michelson Family).

The MSWC Dr. Eileen McDonough Scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Eileen McDonough, our past president and an inspiring educator who believed deeply in the potential of young people. Dr. McDonough dedicated her life to helping students overcome obstacles, empowering them to reach their goals and fulfill their dreams. She believed that pursuing your passion is the most important step to ultimately doing what you love.
In that spirit, this scholarship is open to high school students or currently enrolled college/university students passionate about pursuing their dreams, whether through the traditional university path or via vocational training, a trade school, or other non-traditional educational paths. Your educational goals are yours to make, and we want to help support you on your journey.
We believe in the limitless potential of young people to make a positive impact. The MSWC High School Scholarship is open to all passionate high school seniors committed to furthering their education in any professional field of their choice. Whether your interests are in the arts, sciences, technology, or any other area, we support your journey to higher education and your drive to make a difference in your community. We are looking for students dedicated to using their passion and talents to create meaningful change and inspire others along the way.
Jennifer Ator was a beloved member of the Miami Springs Woman's Club; among her many accomplishments, she was a councilwoman, an attorney, and a graduate of the inaugural class of the University of Miami's Good Government Initiative; she derived great satisfaction from the results of thoughtful, loving, and dedicated service to her community and numerous community and service organizations. In her memory, her family has established this scholarship with the support of our organization. It will be awarded to a graduating High School student pursuing a career in Education, Law, Political Science, Public Relations, or Journalism.
The Sigurd Michelson Memorial Trade Scholarship* was established by Judy Michelson, our 1st Vice President, in loving memory of her late husband, Sigurd Michelson. Sig was a firm believer in the value of occupational education as a means to prepare students for the workforce, fulfilling the needs of our community, businesses, and industries. He often said, “College isn’t for everyone,” underscoring his belief that skilled trades are essential and rewarding career paths.
This scholarship is dedicated to students who are pursuing vocational or trade education. Whether you aspire to be an electrician like Sig, a plumber, a mechanic, or any other skilled tradesperson, this scholarship is here to support your journey. It aims to honor Sig’s legacy by empowering individuals who are ready to build, create, and contribute to our communities through hands-on, practical skills.
